Emergency Response

The critical minutes after a fire, flooding, violence or other emergency event occurs can be nerve-wracking and confusing. Building, employee, civil authority and technology impacts can be magnified... or they can be managed, safeguarding your most important assets - your people and property - and setting the tone for a proper response and recovery.

Coffee Table Case Study
The Italian branch of a global enterprise decided to commission a review of their ability to respond to an emergency and ensure the safety of their employees. Their building manager assured them that they were in compliance with Italian Law, which required identification of a congregation point for evacuation and filing that point with the local authorities. Upon further assessment by Mr. Mannella, they learned that:
  • The evacuation point on file was directly in front of the exit door, directly below a glass façade, and would have put their staff in harm's way during an emergency
  •  None of the staff knew the evacuation point, how to safely evacuate the office or where to go. There was no formal process and no roles for wardens or searchers
  • There was no plan for what to do if they could not return
Mr. Mannella worked with the team and the building management to determine a safe congregation area, get it on file with the Italian authorities to ensure compliance, document emergency procedures and train the staff. He also put them through a mock emergency exercise (the first in the history of the office) where they not only conducted an evacuation but practiced activating their "Now What" Continuity plan to keep the office running during an emergency.
